Music by Richard Rodgers. Book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II Based on the novel Sweet Thursday by John Steinbeck
This unusual musical is a love story set amidst a cast of social dropouts and misfits, and the musical's descriptions of their way of life makes for an uproarious but thought-provoking show. Suzy, a tramp, is arrested for stealing food but is saved from prison by the intervention of Fauna, the Madame of the local brothel, who kindly offers Suzy a home. There Suzy meets and fall in love with Doc, a marine biologist, and after a series of romantic complications all ends happily. Songs include "The Happiest House On The Block", "The Man I Used To Be" and "Think".
