PRESS RELEASE

Date: 18 June 2008

SUBJECT: INGMAR BERGMAN STAGE WORKS

Josef Weinberger are pleased to announce that they have been appointed by the Ingmar Bergman Foundation as the licensing agent for the stage works of the great Swedish director, who died in 2007. Weinberger will represent Bergman's works in all territories except Sweden, where the Foundation will continue to license directly.

Renowned internationally as one of cinema's most influential directors, Ingmar Bergman was first and foremost a man of the theatre and a writer. He directed for the stage throughout his life and was particularly associated with the works of Shakespeare, Ibsen, Moliere and Strindberg. His work in the theatre inevitably influenced the structure of his screenplays, and makes them especially suited to adaptation for the stage.

In addition to his own plays, a growing number of his films have already been adapted for the stage, particularly Scenes From A Marriage - recently staged by Trevor Nunn in Coventry and due for a London transfer late in 2008 - Autumn Sonata and After The Rehearsal. Prior to 1990, stage rights for the film scripts were unavailable, but the whole canon is now available for the first time.

A new website with details of all of the Bergman works now available for stage performance - many of which are available in English translations - will be published at www.josef-weinberger.com/bergman. The site will also contain links to the websites of the Ingmar Bergman Foundation.

All applications for perusal copies should be made directly to Josef Weinberger.
